On June 12, 2023, the Philippines will celebrate its 125th anniversary of independence and nationhood.
Philippine Independence Day is a national holiday that commemorates the declaration of independence from Spain on June 12, 1898, by General Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite. It is also known as Araw ng Kalayaan or Day of Freedom in Filipino. The theme of the commemoration is Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan (Freedom. Future. History). The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will launch the official logo for the milestone event at Fort San Pedro, Cebu City on August 3, 20222. The NHCP will also mark around 100 sites along the path of Philippine independence and nationhood from Kawit to Palanan, and across the country with national historical markers and memorials called Landas ng Pagkabansang Pilipino (Philippine Nationhood Trail). Some of the other events that will be celebrated as part of the milestone are:
– 125th anniversary of the birth of the Philippine Flag and National Anthem in June 2023
– 125th anniversary of the First Philippine Congress in Barasoain Church in September 2023
– 125th anniversary of the First Philippine Constitution in January 2024
– 125th anniversary of the First Philippine Republic in Malolos in January 2024
– 125th anniversary of the Philippine-American War in January 2024
– 125th anniversary of the Siege of Baler in June 2024
– 125th anniversary of the Death of Antonio Luna and Gregorio del Pilar in June and December 2024
Philippine Independence Day is usually celebrated with flag-raising ceremonies, parades, cultural shows, fireworks, and patriotic speeches by government officials. The main celebration is held at Rizal Park in Manila, where the president delivers a speech and leads the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites at the Rizal Monument. Other venues for the celebration include Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Barasoain Church in Malolos, and Luneta Hill in Baguio. Many Filipinos also display the national flag outside their homes, offices, schools, and public buildings during this period.

Edd describes himself as an asocial and acerbic individual. He began blogging in 2007 on Blogspot, long before blogging became a widespread trend. Initially, his blog served as an online diary—a personal journal where he shared his experiences, thoughts, and travels. Over time, his blog evolved into a space where he could express his random musings and reflections. This personal blog doesn’t focus on any specific niche, but instead, it’s a collection of his diverse interests and feelings. Edd created the blog purely as a hobby, with no particular intention of aligning it with any particular theme or audience. It remains a platform for him to write about whatever crosses his mind, with a style that is uniquely his own—raw, honest, and unapologetic. Through the years, the blog has served as a creative outlet, allowing Edd to document his personal journey while sharing bits of his life and thoughts with the world.
